Lanphier Life Skills Students Get a Boost Towards Workforce Readiness
Students from the life skills classrooms at Lanphier High School are gaining independence and preparing for future careers thanks to a revitalized program. Today, students picked up their bus passes from the Springfield Mass Transit District (SMTD) administrative center, which they will use to travel to various work sites across the city. SMTD offers free bus passes anyone (student or adult) with a differing ability.
At their host sites, students will gain valuable, real-world experience and develop essential skills that will help them successfully transition from school into the workforce. In addition to learning to travel independently, students in this program will learn how to shop, plan, budget, communicate, handle money, and fill orders, among many other valuable skills. This program provides hands-on learning opportunities that are crucial for their personal and professional growth.
The program is currently seeking additional local businesses to partner with. If your business is interested in regularly hosting Lanphier students and their teachers, please contact instructors Ms. Hawkins or Mr. Logsdon at 217-525-3080. Lanphier High School invites SENIORS and their families to Path to the Future, a night dedicated to preparing for life after high school.

As a reminder, locker expectations were reviewed with all students during the discipline meeting on August 20, 2025. To keep hallways safe and minimize disruptions during the school day, students may access their lockers only during the following times:
➡️ Morning: 8:15 a.m. – 8:24 a.m.
➡️ Before Lunch
➡️ After Lunch
➡️ End of the School Day (after the final bell)
We ask that students plan ahead and use their lockers only during these scheduled times. This routine helps reduce hallway traffic, ensures a smoother school day, and allows teachers and students to stay focused on learning.

My staff and I are eager to share the great things your student is accomplishing both academically and socially. Please have Chromebooks, binders, and other technology removed from bags before going through metal detectors.
Students should carry backpacks and Chromebook bags through the detectors.
Parent Entrance
Parents are not allowed to use the student entrance, and will enter through the main entrance. Due to security searches and helping students in the building, parent appointments will begin at 9:00 AM.

On the first day, students can also pick up a paper copy of their schedule and locker information in the atrium.

The Student Government will be selling parking permits for Juniors and Seniors on August 13, August 14, and August 15 from 8:00 a.m. till 12:00 p.m. in the main lobby. Student parking permits will be for the MEMORIAL STADIUM Parking Lot. Students will need: $40 cash Proof of Insurance License Plate Number Spaces are numbered/assigned. It is first come first served and where students are comfortable parking. The parking lot will have signage showing restricted areas. The traditional Converse Student Parking Lot is off limits to park in due to the High Speed Railroad being constructed. Vehicles will be towed at the owner's expense. Missed Senior Portrait Day? Need to retake your portrait?
LHS Senior Portrait retake day will be on September 17th during the school day. A sign up sheet will be made available to Seniors closer to that date. Your Senior Portrait session consists of two pictures: one must be in more formal dress (think “job interview” or “going to church”) and the second can be an outfit of your choice (show your personality!). Both pictures are taken from approximately your thighs up. A few weeks after the session, you will receive proofs (sample pictures) that you can use to order your portrait package if you wish.
These portraits are also used for your student ID, your cumulative folder picture, and the yearbook. Yearbook will not accept independently submitted Senior Pictures for publication.
